"From the body of the inn where she grew up, memory."
She grew up in this inn, owned by three generations of her family, once nestled on a bucolic beach in Florianópolis. She spent joyful years running through memory-laden hallways, resting in the garden under the grand mango tree. But the city grew, and the once rustic, almost untouched beach became an international destination. The family inn was to be demolished for new developments. Although a photographer, she couldn't bring herself to take a single photo of what remained. So I went there, as the demolition had begun, to try to capture something she could cherish as a memory.

How do I feel about my city? What is my day-to-day relationship with it? What kind of relationship would I like to have? What is real and what is fiction? Do I truly see and feel the city around me, or do I merely pass through it each day?
This series emerged from reflecting on these questions. I realized that the relationship I have with the city is not the one I desire. It feels like fiction—a fantasy I create daily to mask reality. Meanwhile, the ideal relationship I long for is also a fiction, imagined in my mind as a dream. On rare occasions, dream and reality blur.
This book uses a leporello binding to allow two distinct readings: from the cover “From the Street” or the cover “From Above.”
